BACtrack Consumption Report: Super Bowl 50

For the sixth time, BACtrack shares consumer Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) data for review and analysis, exploring the average BAC levels from around the country during Super Bowl 50.

Super Bowl 50 was hosted in BACtrack's hometown of San Francisco, CA. We wanted to be part of the action, so we not only collected 1000's of anonymous BAC data points from around the country, but we also sent our BACtrack Referees to various Super Bowl events and parties around town to test the fans.

The Big Game Equates to Big Drinking

The average BAC level during the game on Super Bowl Sunday was 50% higher than the average BAC for non-holiday Sundays in 2015.

San Francisco Bay Area Fans Out Drank All Others

Fans in the San Francisco Bay Area had BACs nearly 30% higher than the national average during the game and over 50% higher than the national average for a normal Sunday. #homefieldadvantage?

Average BAC Peaked in the Fourth Quarter

As expected, we saw a large spike in average BAC from a few hours prior to kick-off up until the start of the game. From there, things stayed fairly flat, peaking in the fourth quarter at 0.084%, before dropping back down to 0.075% around 9pm.

Methodology

Data for the BACtrack Consumption Report was collected anonymously from users of the BACtrack app, which syncs with BACtrack Mobile and BACtrack Vio smartphone breathalyzers. Data used in the report was only collected from users with data storage activated, location services turned on, and does not represent data from all users. Data represents over 5,000 unique BAC tests collected from Tuesday, February 2, 2016, 3:00 PM to Sunday, February 7, 2016 from 9:00 PM PST.
